This is a weekly reading meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

What did you recently finish?

I always do this one first because I always seem to be in the middle of a series, and it makes the most sense for me.  This week is no different.

ever night

I just finished Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi.  The second in the Under the Never Sky trilogy, this one picks up where the first left off.  Aria has been given the mission to obtain the location of the Still Blue from Tribal Lord Sable.  In exchange for the information, Hess, a Dweller in charge of Reverie, will make sure Perry’s nephew Talon is safe.  Meanwhile, Perry is struggling with the reality of being leader of this people.

It was a good read, but, again, I have no strong opinions of it either way.  It was diverting, but not very deep or exciting.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Into the Still Blue, the last of the Never Sky trilogy.  I’m enjoying it, and I was thrilled the other night at once scene.  Basically, Aria has to deal with a difficult Dweller, Soren, who is acting like a total ass to the Tides, Perry’s tribe.  Instead of taking the opportunity to showcase her acerbic wit or deliver a cutting monologue as to Soren’s new reality, as I’ve come to expect with YA (actually, most genre lit), Aria completely derailed the situation using diplomacy and tact.  It was amazing.  It made me like the book better than the others in the trilgoy based on that one scene.

I just want to clarify that I don’t mind acerbic wit or cutting monologue’s, it was just nice to see something else.  Actually, the  moment really reminded me of a teacher handling a difficult student, and I love seeing examples of good classroom management.

What do you think you’ll read next?

last girl

I’m going to read The Last Girl by Joe Hart.  It’s a Kindle First read about one of the last women on Earth after a mysterious epidemic causes the female population to plummet.  I’ve already read Y: The Last Man and Children of Men; this looks to be along a similar vein.  I hope it’s good.

What did I just finish?

under the never sky

I just finished reading Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.  As I said in my post yesterday, I never reviewed it because I don’t have much to say.  Full disclosure: I’m also having a hard time summarizing it.  There’s just so much to explain, that by the time I get through it, I’ve run out of words.  And that never happens to me.

But, just to try:

This book takes place on the future of our world, where solar flares caused something called Aether to corrupt the atmosphere.  Some of the population, like Aria, have retreated into Pods where they live out their lives in virtual worlds called the Realm.  Others, like Perry, live on the outside in tribes and struggle to food and shelter themselves from the storms caused by the Aether.  When a tragic accident forces Aria to the outside, she and Perry must work together to get Aria to her mother and help reunite Perry with his missing nephew.

And, now that I’ve said all that, I can tell you the book is fine.  It’s not brilliant, it’s not terrible.  It’s pretty typical of YA where the boy and girl work together and eventually fall for each other.  I like the characters (I like Aria more than Perry) and it was interesting enough for me to decide to read the next one.  Which leads me to…

What are you currently reading?

ever night

I am reading Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi.  In order to ensure the safety of Perry’s nephew, Talon, Aria must search for the fabled “still blue,” a place where there is no Aether.  Along the way, she is reunited with Perry, who is now the leader of his tribe.

And finally…

What do you think you’ll read next?

into still blue

Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi.  The final book in the trilogy.  After that, I have no idea.  I am always looking for suggestions.  I might read an adult mystery.  Or maybe I’ll reread Rainbow Boys, since I haven’t read it in years.

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling).  It’s good so far.  I really like Robin and Comoran and their interplay a lot.  I always forget how much I enjoy mysteries when I’m not reading them.

What did you recently finish reading?

I just finished The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy.  It’s the sequel to The Fifth Wave.  These books really pull no punches.   They feel even more brutal than the Hunger Games, although I’m not exactly sure why.  Hunger Games was no walk in the park for anyone, especially Mockingjay, but these fell rougher than they did.  I really enjoyed both (although I preferred Fifth Wave).  I can’t wait for the last one to come out.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I honestly have no idea.  I’ve had Career of Evil on my to-read list for awhile, but nothing beyond that.  I’ll have to poke around and get some ideas.

What I’m reading I am currently reading The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancy.  It is about an alien invasion that devastates the world and one girl’s fight to survive.  Well, so far it’s just one girl.  I’m only on page 101; I’m assuming other characters will show up.  I’m really enjoying it so far, even though some of it popped up unpleasantly in my dreams last night.

What I just finished Terms of Use by Scott Allan Morrison.  There’s a conspiracy and action and a lot of unpleasant people.  It was all right.  I got it as a free book though Amazon Prime.

What I’m reading next I have no idea.  I’m having trouble thinking ahead on books or even being motivated to find them.  Any suggestions?

www wednesdayWhat I’m reading

winterI’M READING WINTER!!!!!  I FINALLY HAVE IT IN MY COLD LITTLE HANDS!!!  I’m so happy. 🙂

Also, I’m kind of reading Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas, which is the third in the Throne of Glass series, but I’m not really enjoying it.  This is my second time attempting to get into it, and it’s just hard.  I don’t care about any of the characters, at least not like I did in the first book.  It’s disappointing.

What I just read

Fairest_cover-Final-677x1024This was Queen Levana’s story from the Lunar Chronicles.  It’d forgotten a lot of it and am glad I reread it before getting to Winter.  (WINTER!!!)

What I’m reading next

Nothing.  Nothing matters any more once I’ve finished Winter.

Actually, I’ll either read Manners and Mutiny by Gail Carriger, the last book in the Finishing School series or Career of Evil by Robert Gabraith (aka J.K. Rowling).

I wish I didn’t have to work on report cards tomorrow.  Otherwise, I’d read all day
